Arranging dictionaries on the bookshelf for convenience
Why change the order of dictionaries?
- The first to be shown in the entry window are entries from local dictionaries. Entries are displayed in the order in which the relevant dictionaries are arranged on the bookshelf.
They are followed by entries from online dictionaries. They are also displayed in the order in which they are arranged on the bookshelf.
Advice. If you frequently use a specific dictionary, put it first on the bookshelf. - The popup window shows the translation from the first local dictionary on the bookshelf.

Note. If a word has no matching entry in the first dictionary, it is looked up in the second local dictionary and so forth.
How can the dictionaries be rearranged?
Drag a dictionary icon to a new place on the bookshelf while holding the Alt key.
Advice. You can also rearrange the dictionaries using the tab Bookshelves in the dialog box Language and Dictionary Settings (menu Tools→Language and Dictionary Settings…→Bookshelves):
- Pick a bookshelf.
- Pick the required dictionary on the bookshelf and use the Up and Down keys.
Dictionaries can be arranged in a different sequence on different bookshelves
The same dictionary can be placed on several bookshelves. When you rearrange dictionaries on one bookshelf, their sequence on other bookshelves does not change.
