Why a translation search opens several entry windows

ABBYY Lingvo selects an entry taking into account the word form

For example, depending on the context the word bit can be a noun or a past tense verb. This is why your translation search will produce two entry windows — one with the headword bit (noun) and one with the headword bite (verb).

So to translate a word you do not need to know the forms of the word or be able to enter it in a specific “dictionary-friendly” form.

Opening only one entry window

To open the entry card of a specific word or phrase, double-click it in the word list.

For example, enter the word bit in the search field. Since there is an entry window with this headword, the word bit will be displayed in the word list. Double-click this word in the word list to display the bit entry window on the screen.

Advice. You can use keyboard shortcuts to open the entry window of a specific word. Enter the word in the search field and press Shift+Enter.
