Cannot hear word pronunciations
There is no icon in the entry window
Only some dictionaries have recorded pronunciations. For example, for the English-Russian translation direction only LingvoUniversal (En-Ru) dictionary has recorded pronunciations. Only the most frequently used words have been recorded in dictionaries with sound.

Make sure the pronunciation of the word you need has been recorded:
- Make sure the dictionary with sound is in the first place on the bookshelf.
If not, press and hold Alt and drag the dictionary icon to the first place on the bookshelf. - Make sure the dictionary with sound is not disabled.
If the dictionary icon on the bookshelf is not depressed, this means the dictionary is disabled and not used in translation.
To enable the dictionary, click its icon. - Open the entry window of the required word.
If you do not see the icon in the entry window, the pronunciation of this word has not been recorded.
No sound is heard when you click the icon
Make sure the headphones or speakers are switched on. Check the volume of the headphones or speakers.
If the volume is sufficient, check the system sound settings:
For Microsoft® Windows® XP
- Choose Start → Control Panel → Sounds and Audio Devices.
- In the window that opens select the Volume tab. Make sure sound is enabled. Check the sound volume.
- Select the Sounds tab. In the Sound scheme field choose Windows Default. In the Program events field choose any sound file (with a speaker icon on the left) and click the playback button.
If you can hear sound playback but do not hear sound when clicking the sound icon in ABBYY Lingvo, contact the support service.
For Microsoft® Windows Vista®
- Choose Start → Control Panel → Sound.
- On the Playback tab in the list double-click Speakers/Headphones. In the window that opens select the Levels tab. Make sure sound is enabled. Check the sound volume.
- Select the Sounds tab. In the Sound scheme field choose Windows Default. In the Program events field choose any sound file (with a speaker icon on the left) and click the Test button.
If you can hear sound playback but do not hear sound when clicking the sound icon in ABBYY Lingvo, contact the support service.
